El desajuste del mundo.

Amin Maalouf ha dado el salto desde la novela de ficción al ensayo para reflexionar en su nuevo libro sobre el "desajuste de suprema envergadura" que impide el avance de la sociedad contemporánea.
El libanés, de 60 años, ha explicado durante la presentación de 'El desajuste del mundo. Cuando nuestras civilizaciones se agotan' que actualmente "existe una necesidad de universalizar los valores éticos, porque están yendo hacia atrás".
Maalouf (exiliado en París desde la guerra que asoló su país en 1975) advierte en las primeras líneas de su última obra de la llegada a "este siglo sin brújula", sin un referente cultural válido para todo el mundo; "occidente, que ha sido el que ha ido aportando estos valores [a lo largo de la Historia], ha fracasado en su universalización".
Para uno de los literatos más representativos del mundo árabe, la evolución social parte de "la universalidad de los valores y el respeto a la diversidad de las culturas".
"En el libro, que es un diagnóstico de la situación del mundo, reconozco que los valores esenciales tienen que ser comunes y que no dependan de si estamos en Europa o Asia. Todos tienen la misma dignidad. No porque carezcan de sistema democrático van a ser diferentes", ha expresado Maalouf.
El escritor ha hecho un llamamiento para incitar al entendimiento entre las distintas culturas que, actualmente, cada vez encuentran más obstáculos para la convivencia pacífica. "En los idiomas todas las personas tienen su dignidad y, si estas diferencias culturales no se respetan, pueden venir acciones más violentas. Necesitamos conocer la cultura de los demás para que existan la armonía y la paz social".
Sin embargo, también ha hecho hincapié en "el respeto a las personas por encima de las tradiciones" y se ha referido muy en particular a la situación de las mujeres en algunos lugares en los que imperan las segundas sobre las primeras.
Creo que estos problemas y desajustes vienen del agotamiento simultáneo de dos modelos sociales, del mundo occidental y del mundo árabe. El discurso de Obama, el pasado 4 de junio en El Cairo, insistiendo en la necesidad de que coexistan un estado israelí y otro palestino, fue excelente -ha dicho el escritor-, pero hoy estoy impaciente y desilusionado por no producirse avances, y creo que se están dando vueltas en círculo".
Es necesario "un proyecto que deje de envenenar las relaciones entre Occidente y el mundo árabe. Si esto no se resuelve, no se podrá abolir la desconfianza entre esas dos partes del mundo y no se solucionarán los temas en Irak o Irán. Veo un proyecto de paz en el que haya espacio para todo el mundo, pero tiene que haber voluntad", ha añadido.
"La situación en el mundo árabe contribuye a cierta regresión en el resto del mundo. Si conseguimos que se reanude su avance, ello puede tener repercusiones en el mundo entero", considera Maalouf
